Music that Celebrates the True North, Strong and Free
Diane Loomer said, “Larry, I’m trying to put a Canadian folk song concert together, but all the folk songs seem to come from the East Coast.” So Larry and composer friends rose to the challenge – began to write choral arrangements of folksongs from the West Coast. Dave Baker, for example, was an engineer who didn’t read notation but set terrific lyrics to compelling melodies – about living in B.C. Before Dave Baker passed away, in 2024, his “Royal Hudson” had been performed all over the world, by over 300 choirs. It has become a classic West Coast folk song. Many of these songs about Canadian life were written by tune-smith guitar strummers – like Gordon Lightfoot and Stan Rogers – and all are arranged by fine Canadian Choral Composers.
