WORLD OF SMALL
LYRICS
Now the rains have come again
and the leaves have blown away
and the forest stands alone
against a sky of autumn grey.
I recall there was a time
when a child would walk alone
and she’d whisper to the trees
that their shelter was her home.
And through the years the changing tides
had seen a woman breaking free.
Now, on her canvass, there we find
who this child had grown to be.
You could find strength in your reflections,
you’d find life where love had died,
you could express an artist’s joy in what you saw.
And you were kind to your companions
and to those who shared your dreams.
I’m deeply touched
for now I know the world of small.
You loved the people of the land
whose trust was pure but felt betrayed
and you knew within your soul
that they found a better way.
And with your brush you tried in vain
to show the cynics they were blind.
Perhaps in time they’ll understand
those precious gifts you left behind.
You could be strong in times of sorrow,
you’d be free to live at will.
You could be harsh to those who failed to give at all.
But you were kind to your companions
and to those who shared your dreams.
I’m deeply touched
for now I know the world of small.
