Morning comes, the light of day, birds their wings unfold

Rising up to find their way o’er windswept plains of gold
Bones of weary pioneers lie buried in the ground
Air still fills with warrior calls as ghostly bison pound

And to the west I’ll always see distant Rocky Mountain high
Sentinels of stone against the great Alberta sky.

Glacial rivers, emerald green, meander through the vale
Where the mighty dinosaur once roamed hearty and hale
Cougar, bear, and elk and deer, the magpies and the crows
Wolves and coyotes, gophers too, and eagles flying low

Bridge: Roads as straight as arrows shot from prairie poplar bows
Or like unrolling ribbons, whether ’r no chinook winds blow
See them in their pick-up truck, our weather-watching men
Drive out to the pastures, then back to town again.

As I watch the setting sun, snow caps catch my eye
While a flock of geese in flight cuts across the sky
And the hear the distant sound of lonely coyote’s call
As the lowing cattle wait for blessed night to fall.
