(Three Christmas Carols)

1. Une vierge féconde, de grand’ beauté
A Virgin great with child, of such beauty rare
À nulle autre seconde a mérité
Above all other maidens everywhere
D’avoir porté dans son flame pur et munde
Was asked to bear in her womb pure and holy
Le Sauveur de ce monde, par son humilité
The Saviour of the world so humble pure and lowly

2. Cette humble jouvencelle l’oeil simple avait
This maid of perfect virtue with eyes so pure
D’un dévotieux zèle à Dieu servait
With reverent devotion, steadfast and sure
Et lui faisait son oraison fidèle
Petitioned God on meekly bended knee
De rester pure et vierge pendant qu’elle vivrait
That she remain a virgin of perfect chastity

3. Tant quelle fut en vie n’a jamais eu
And when the babe was born, Mary’s sole reward
En son coeur d’autre envie que plaire à Dieu;
Was only that she could please her heavenly Lord
Mais, en tout lieu, comme vierge accomplie,
Throughout her faithful life her prayers she raised
Du Saint Esprit replie garda son chaste voeu.
And satyed steadfastly true to the One whom she praised
