Humming Bird

The sunlight speaks, it’s voice is a bird.
It glimmers half-guessed, half-seen, half-heard.
Above the flowerbed, over the lawn
a flashing dip, and it is gone.

The sunlight speaks, it’s voice is a bird.
It glimmers half-guessed, half-seen, half-heard.
And all it lends to the eye is this –
A sunbeam giving the air a kiss.

Widow Bird

A widow bird sat mourning for her love
upon a wintry bough;
The frozen wind crept on above,
the freezing stream below.
There was no leaf upon the forest bare.
No flowers upon the ground.
And little motion in the air
except the mill wheel’s sound.

Be Like a Bird

Be like a bird,
who halting in his flight on a limb too slight
feels it give way beneath him.
Yet he sings
knowing he has wings.
Be like the bird who sings!
