LYRICS

Far horizon fades to blue,
sky and water, every hue
 Eagle circles lofty nest,
whales suspend in liquid rest.

Caught between an ocean and a summer moon,
Rocky Mountains bathe in lunar light,
Gulf isles drift on sea of star embroidery
To dream through an ordinary August night.

Hear the sound of water lap against the shore,
 Where the sunflower starfish lie.
Waves recede and grow in tidal to and fro
Of Gabriola Island’s lullabye.

And from out the sunken depths,
Mists of dawn will soon be born.
When the seals emerge to see the herons rise
 Into another ordinary August morn.

Golden yellow, palest blue,
breath of summer off the dew,
Ancient trees in gentle sway,
whisper praise for each new day.

Flight of gulls accompanies the ferry boats
from Nanaimo ‘cross the waterway,
People come and go
in endless ebb and flow,
of another ordinary August day.

Sudden shower passes in a shroud of grey,
Island stills in momentary gloom,
Creatures lie unseen in a hush of green
to doze through a fading August afternoon.

From the east the shadows spread,
wings of night across the sky ,
And a salmon moon begins to hum the tune
of Gabriola Island’s lullabye.

Far horizon fades to blue,
sky and water, every hue
Eagle circles lofty nest,
whales suspend in liquid rest.
