MY CEDAR CANOE

by Martha Hill Duncan

this computer simulation will be replaced with a genuine choir soon. Think of serenity – paddling a canoe on a quiet lake. Perfect for young voices but also suitable for women’s choir.

LYRICS

The wooden planks are carefully shaped
for my cedar canoe
Many days of floating with the wind –
many paddle strokes ahead.
The water is waiting for the maiden voyage
of my cedar canoe.

Many warm summer mornings together
with so many things to do.
As the bow slices through the glassy surface,
straight as an arrow and silent as the breeze.

I’m gliding along
through the misty reflection of the trees
in my cedar canoe.
