A bird, a tree, a child – with questions of happiness and loneliness. What a provoking trilogy to deal with the deep questions of our existence in such a charming way.

Refrain

L’enfant eu beau chanter, l’oiseau s’égosiller,

translation

At the bottom of a garden lived,
For a hundred years, a gigantic tree, rich in foliage.
His faded icy bark revealed the chill of being unloved.

At the dawn of his life, a courageous bird,
Coming from nowhere, was looking for refuge.
He considered himself fortunate
To come and perch on the frozen bark.

Looking down from his perch the bird watched
A tender-hearted child jumping and singing.
How had this child come to be so happy?
He was consumed by an incurable disease : love.

In the shadow of the morning the child saw the bird.
«What do you expect from a lonely tree?», he asked.
«What can we do to save this tree?» asked the bird.

So the child sang and the bird danced.
Despite all of their efforts, the tree looked at them in disdain.

In the autumn of his life,
The bird flew away,
The child grew up and left.
The ungrateful tree let fade all of the summers’ memory
