WATER IS WIDE

Home 9 Composers 9 Miles Ramsay 9 WATER IS WIDE

featuring the West Coast Mennonite Chamber Choir
A lovely arrangement of this famous folk song, which, like all of Miles’ arrangements, is slightly jazzy, but never schmaltzy. It maintains the intrinsic beauty of the tune, and the wistfulness of the sentiment.

The water is wide – I can’t cross over
and neither have I wings to fly.
Give me a boat that can carry two
and both shall row – my love and I.

There is a ship and she sails the seas.
She’s loaded deep as deep can be
but not so deep as the love I’m in,
I know not how I sink or swim.

Love is handsome – and love is kind
the swee love, when first first it’s new.
But love grow old and waxes cold
and fades away like summer dew.

The water is wide – I can’t cross over
and neither have I wings to fly.
Give me a boat that can carry two
and both shall row – my love and I.
