Alleluia, Pro Virgine Maria
by Ronald Beckett
CP 2237 – SATB – duration 2:38
Alleluia, Pro Virgine Maria appears on the Arcady CD “Welcome Yule”- Whole Note Magazine’s second ranked CD from 2001. This modern setting in the traditional burden carol style evokes the golden age of the English carol. About 500 such 15th Century texts survive, many referencing the Virgin Mary. Alleluia has seldom been set by modern composers. “Austere and beautiful in its long-ago way.”– James Reaney, London Free Press. “To me, it felt like he (Beckett) has tied the age of chivalry and the modern age together with a warm Christmas ribbon.” – Murray Charters, Ontario Arts Review
