KENNEDY KIMBER-JOHNSON

Kennedy Kimber-Johnson is a Canadian composer, organist, conductor, and pianist based in Ontario.

Kennedy holds a Bachelor of Music in Honours Composition from Western University, a Graduate Performance Diploma from McGill University, and a Master of Music in Composition from Western University. Her composition studies included work with Peter Paul Koprowski, Paul Frehner, and Omar Daniel. Her master’s thesis, Waves of Lament, is a five-movement solo organ cycle inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a composer, Kennedy has contributed music to a variety of media and performance projects, including the video game Buffer Overflow, which received Best Audio at LoJam X GDS 2025, and FlutterFall Frenzy by Blencathra Studios. She has also composed for film, including the original score for Veil, a short film produced by Shady Lady Films for the 48 Hour Film Project. In 2018, she was commissioned to compose A Singing People for the handbell choir of Metropolitan United Church in London, Ontario, which premiered in October 2018. In 2022, Kennedy was commissioned to write the choral work “Never Be Shaken“ for Elmwood Presbyterian Church in London, Ontario.

Since 2020, Kennedy has served as Director of Music at Colborne Street United Church in London, Ontario, where she directs the adult and handbell choirs. She is also an active recitalist, passionate about performing works by women composers and introducing the organ to new audiences. In 2024, she organized the Women’s History Month Organ Concert, featuring works by women organists and composers. She has also performed in the live film-score event Hands of Orlac in collaboration with composer Scott Good and the Forest City Film Festival.
