ANGELS FROM HEAVEN CAME
featuring music intima – recording available
A stunning setting of two texts from Luke’s Christmas story (the shepherds and the annunciation), this composition explores the role angels played in the drama of the birth of Christ. This composition won Vancouver’s Christ Church Cathedral Choir first place in the Canadian Contemporary Music category of the CBC Choral Competition in May 2006.
LYRICS
The Angel, Gabriel from Heaven came.
And there were, in the same country,
shepherds abiding in the fields,
keeping watch over their flock by night.
And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them.
His wings of drifted snow,
and the glory of the Lord shone ‘round about them
His eyes as flame,
and they were sore afraid.
“All Hail!”, said he,
And the angel said unto them, “Fear not” for behold,
most highly favoured lady,
“Thou lowly maiden, Mary!”
I bring you good tidings of great joy,
which shall be to all people.
Gloria!
Gloria
“For known a blessed mother thou shalt be,
All generation laud and honour thee,
Thy son shall be Emmanuel.
For unto you is born this day,
in the city of David, a Saviour,
which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you:
Ye shall find the Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes,
lying in a manger.
Gloria!
Gloria
And suddenly there was with the angel
a multitude of the heavenly host,
praising God and saying,
Glory to God in the highest
and on earth, peace,
good will toward me.
