Joannie Ing is a pianist/ composer/ church musician/ music teacher from Toronto.  She graduated with her Master of Arts (Composition) from York University in 2010. Her thesis, titled “Addicted to Beauty”: Piano Music from Poetry, consists of four piano pieces inspired by poetry.  With her husband Justin Chow, Joannie released an album of contemporary hymn arrangements as the Hymn Remix Project (www.hymnremix.org). 

Joannie’s original hymn, “All I Understand,” won Pax Christi Chorale’s Great Canadian Hymn Competition (2013). Her choral pieces, “A Saviour is Born,” and “It’s Christmas” were featured in the Amadeus Choir’s 2015 and 2016 Christmas concerts respectively.

Winner of the 2017 Toronto Mendelssohn Choir’s Choral Composition Competition, this original Christmas tune is “composed in an accessible style that will tug on the listener’s heart strings.”  It is suitable for high school, church and community choirs.  The piece conveys a message of hope, peace and joy in the good news of Christmas.

Dear friend, I’ve news with you to share
Reason for hope, reason to care
When you feel down, deep in despair
