Corey Payette is one of Canada’s most significant musical theatre composers. An award-winning writer, composer, and director of the musicals Children of God, Les Filles du Roi, and Sedna. Gimikwenden Ina is a song taken from Corey Payette’s Children of God. In this musical, Tommy and Julia, the children of an Oji-Cree family, are sent to a residential school in Northern Ontario. As the school tries to “take the Indian out of the child,” Tommy struggles not to forget his language, his family, his culture.
