Originally from Thornhill, Ontario, Michael Unger currently resides in Rochester, New York, where he is the Visiting Director of Music at the Lutheran Church of the Incarnate Word.  He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Western Ontario, and graduate work at the Eastman School of Music, where he is currently completing a doctoral degree.  An active performer on organ and harpsichord, he is the recipient of numerous awards, including First and Audience Prizes at the 2008 American Guild of Organists' National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance (NYACOP), First Prize in the 2008 International Organ Competition in Musashino-Tokyo, and Second and Audience Prizes in the 2009 Schnitger International Organ Competition on the historic organs of Alkmaar.  Recent compact disc recordings are available on the Naxos and Pro Organo labels.  As a composer, his 'Sea Song' was the First Prize winner of the 2002 Choral Composition Competition of the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors.
