In the Bleak Midwinter   arr. Kathryn Parrotta

SSAATB    $2.35    CP 1144
(listen here and view the score)  duration - 2:55

Kathryn Parrotta brings a warm, slightly "pop" feel to this traditional carol by Rosetti/Holst. The choral background provides a smooth (cool, but not cold) background for the soloist - soprano, alto, tenor, or baritone. Good for high school jazz choir.

Carry Me Away   by Kathryn Parrotta

SA and piano    $2.35    CP 1331

This a a beautiful song for treble voices - about flying!

My choir used the imagery and sensation of flying in a dream above our beautiful earth and also the feeling of reaching the top of a roller coaster climb - before the big drop. This sensory teaching helped to achieve feelings of freedom and anticipation.  We discussed the lyrics and how they apply to their own life situations; the fear of flying alone, the will to try, and the desire to achieve.   KP

Kathryn began singing and playing piano at an early age.  She sang with several local choirs and at the age of 8 her compositions were being performed and recorded.  Her love of composition was furthered under the guidance of theory and flute teacher Tim Janz.  Choral music became Kathryn’s specialty after singing under both Marnie Strome (Calgary Children’s Choir), Elaine Quilichini (Calgary Girl’s Choir and University Women’s Choir), and Janet Youngdahl (Spiritus Chamber Choir).
In 2003, Kathryn obtained a Bachelor of Music in voice performance from the University of Calgary.  Currently Kathryn Parrotta is a music director for the Senior Hi division of the Youth Singers of Calgary. She is also a vocal clinician at several high schools throughout Calgary and maintains a private voice studio.  As a composer, Kathryn has been commissioned dozens of works for choirs around Alberta, many of which can be found published by Alliance Publications and Cypress Music Publishing.  In April 2009 Kathryn completed her Master of Music degree in choral conducting.
